Entry Level Process Safety Management

LIST OF TRAINING

INTRODUCTION:

The Module of this course will cover the introduction of Process Safety for all staff levels of processing facilities in the process industry. The module will introduce the participant into the need of process safety, the current issues of process safety in Malaysia and case histories that involved the accident due to the process safety failure. The module will also introduce the Process Safety Management (PSM) elements, the process safety implementation in process plant design lifecycle and identification of major hazards in process industry.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Have an insight on the current issues regarding the process safety in Malaysia.
  • Learn and understand the contribution of process safety failure that lead to accidents based on the past case histories.
  • Identify the Process Safety Management elements and its application on managing the process safety of a process plant.
  • Understand the Process Plant Design Lifecycle and the application of PSM in the lifecycle for a safe design plant.
  • Identify and understand the chemical hazards and process hazards in a Chemical Process Industry (CPI)
  • Understand the characteristics, preventive method and emergency response of Major Hazards.

INTRODUCTION:

This course will cover the introduction of Unit Operation (Process Equipment) of processing facilities in the process industry, its working principle, and the hazard associated with each unit operation to entry level participant. The module will introduce the role of process equipment failure that led to accident, whilst introducing the risk reduction strategy which are supposed to reduce the likelihood and impact of the said the failure, in a structural and organized method.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Have an insight on the contribution of equipment failure that lead to accidents based on the past case histories.
  • Understand the Process Unit Principle & the process hazards associated with each process unit.
  • Identify and understand the probable role of process unit operation as accident contributor.
  • Understand the difference terms of hazard, risk, likelihood and consequence of an incident.
  • Understand the risk reduction method available and its application in various stages of plant design life cycle, to achieve lower risk and safer operation.
  • Apply the systematic risk reduction and mitigation of hazards and consequence of an unwanted event through the understanding and application of Bow-Tie Analysis.

INTRODUCTION:

The course will cover the introduction of several Hazard Identification methods and its application suitability to different stages of process plant lifecycle. The module will also introduce and elaborate on application of the methods available to assess the risk of the process plant.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Have an insight on the various Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment Methods that applicable to the process industries.
  • Apply the Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) computation to their own process plant through the understanding and application of the step-by-step guide of Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA).
  • Apply the Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) computation to their own process plant through the understanding and application of the step-by-step guide of Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
  • Apply the qualitative Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) to their own process plant through the understanding and application of the step-by-step guide of Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP).

INTRODUCTION:

This course will cover the fundamental knowledge on the best practice of process safety. It will cover various important elements in the process safety such as process safety information, operating procedure, pre-start up safety reviews (PSSR), management of change (MOC), asset integrity, inspection and maintenance, permit to work (PTW), confined space and hot work permit. Participant will learn the best practices of process safety and understand how it applications can help to prevent process related injuries and accidents. It is important for nurturing a safety culture in a workplace. Safety culture can be cultivated by better understanding of the basic elements of process safety related hazard and its control. This module can be an effective tool for increasing an organization efficiency, cost-effectiveness, quality as well as a positive reputation among stakeholders.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Have an insight on the best practice for process safety management
  • Understand PSSR requirement, regulation and guideline
  • Identify Management of Change legislation and describe Management of Change typology and Benefit
  • Understand the keys to a successful Management of Change program
  • Understand the necessity for Permit-to Work including high risk activities
  • Understand the important of asset integrity and how to manage it
  • Understand the legal requirements relating to Permit-to-Work
  • Know the function and role of a Permit to- Work within the overall risk control framework
